Bačka Palanka

Short info - Bačka Palanka

Bačka Palanka is situated in South Banat District. It takes an area of 224 km2 and has about 30.000 inhabitants. Bačka Palanka is situated on the junction of borders of Croatia, Republika Srpska and Serbia, because of which it has significant economic importance and is in a position to develop tourism.

 

The first settlements in this region were built in XI century, and the name Palanka was mentioned in 1593 for the first time. At the end of XVI century, the Turks occupy this territory, and they leave in 1699. There were three settlements untill 1916: Stara, Nova and Nemačka Palanka.

 

This municipality covers great area of South-Western part of Bačka Palanka with 12 settlements and two settlements in Srem. With its whole width the municipality intersects Bački Petrovac - Karavukovo and Novi Sad - Savino selo channels, and there are also two waterways of the hydrosystem Dunav - Tisa - Dunav.
