Kraljevo

Short info - Kraljevo

Kraljevo is a city in central Serbia, which lies on the banks of three rivers: Ibar, Zapadna Morava and Ribnica. It has a surface of 1530km, and a population of 57,000, and the wider area of the municipality has a population of about 122,000.

Archeological discoveries in the surrounding of Kraljevo show that in this area a settlement existed even 2000 BC. It is consider that the valley of the river Ibar, as a natural traffic way, has brought Romans to this region, which is important for its mineral resources and sources of geothermal water. According to some assumptions, the lower Ibar area is the “original Serbian territory”.

Thanks to its favorable geographical position, Kraljevo is a big traffic crossroad of Serbia. Ibar highway follows the course of the Ibar, it passes through Kraljevo, and it connects northern parts of Serbia with Kosovo and Montenegro. The railway traffic is a part of economical development, because it is the cheapest form of transport for the needs of industry and trade. Kraljevo lies at the crossroad of the highway Požega-Stalać, which connects railroads Beograd-Bar and Beograd-Niš, with a direction Beograd-Lapovo-Kragujevac- Kosovo Polje, and further, towards Macedonia and Thessaloniki.

This region has a mild continental climate. Strong wind is characteristic of late autumn, winter and early spring, while in the other seasons of the year milder west and northwest wind are blowing.
