Short info - Alibunar

Alibunar is a city in a municipality of the same name and it belongs to the South Banat District. The municipality covers an area of 602 sq km and has around 20,000 inhabitants, while the city itself has about 4,000 inhabitants.


Alibunar was mentioned for the first time in documents connected to the 16th century, but there is evidence that settlements existed there during the Neolith, the Bronze Age and in the Roman Era. The name Alibunar originates from the Turkish period (Alijin bunar means Alija’s Well, which was there once).


Alibunar has various natural and anthropogenic tourism resources, which enabled the development of various forms of tourism, including cultural, sports and recreational tourism, hunting, fishing, rural and sightseeing tourism. The biggest tourism potential has the settlement Devojački Bunar in Deliblatska Peščara (Deliblato Sand).
