Short info - Bosilegrad

Bosilegrad is located in Pčinja District, and is the center of a municipailty Bosilegrad. It comprises an area of 220 sqm and has over 2.000 inhabitants.


t is believed that the Poenci tribe had settled this territory, after them Thracians and Bulgarians. During the World War One Bosilegrad was within Bulgaria, and in 1919 it belonged to Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Bosilegrad lies in the basin where Božička and Ljubatska rivers merge, and it is believed that once the King Busilo reigned here, after whom the town was named.


This location is specified by mountainous landscape at 600 to 1920 m above sea level. Dragovištica river runs through the town.


The most important dates for this municipality are: "Umni petak" (or Svetli petak  - the first Friday after Easter when Convocation is being held), 21st September - Nativity of the Virgin Mary and official the Day of Bosilegrad town, third day after Easter - Resurrection of Jesus, Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday when International Easter Festival for Children is being held.
