Short info - Bujanovac

Bujanovac belongs to the municipality of the same name and it is situated in the Pčinja District. It covers an area of 180 sq km and has over 10,000 inhabitants.

The territory of Bujanovac once belonged to the Illyrian tribe Dardani and for some time it was part of the Roman Empire. It was under Ottoman rule for 485 years. During its long history, as various peoples passed through this territory, Bujanovac many times changed its name, for instance, Bujanofc, Bujanoc, Gojanovci, Bujanovce, Boyanofca.

The inhabitants of Bujanovac were once known as good potters, blacksmiths, rope makers, weavers and makers of traditional Serbian shoes (“opanci”). Bujanovac is also known for its mineral water springs, and this is where its other name Bujanovačka Banja (Spa of Bujanovac) comes from.

Bujanovac is situated about 400 m above sea level.
