The old church in Užice is situated in the part of the town called Carina. It is not known for sure when it was built, probably in the first half of 18th century. It is believed that this church was built on the foundations of an earlier church which was destroyed in forthcoming rebellions.

The church was built in so-called wooden bondruk construction, with high and steep roof covered with batten and small wooden bell-tower on the western side. By the end of 19th century near the church was erected very beautiful wooden bell-tower. It is 18 meters high and it has four floors. The wooden bell-tower stands out for his elegant construction and beauty, it is unique in Serbia.

The special significance of the old church has its treasury containing very valuable icons and other artifacts and relics, such as parts of the old iconostasis and patron icon. The church also contains lots of Greek copper engravings.
