18 kilometers west from Novi Sad, in the alluvial plain of the Danube, along its left shore, in the section called Begečka ada, is a nature park Begecka jama. There is about 100 plant species, among which aquatic macrophytesare especially important, as part of the pond-swamped ecosystems, and some are the remains of subtropical vegetation from preglacial period.


The most remarkable representatives of aquatic macrophytes, candidates for the Red List of Serbian flora, are white water lily and red earthnut. At the space of the Nature Park Begeckajama can be seen about 150 species of birds. Most of them are passers, stray birds and non-migrating birds. During the migration of birds from northern landscape here stays up to 1000 different birds.


About 90 species of birds which can be seen at Begecka jama are candidates for Red book of birds of Serbia and 55 of them represents natural rarities in Serbia. On the Red lists of world and Europe is Ferruginous Duck. From the nesting birds the ones that stands out are Mute Swan, Coot, Little and Great Grebe, Greenshank, White and Black Stork, Lapwing, Cormorant and Little Bittern.


Here occasionally stays White Egret, Little White Egret, PurpleHeron and Heron. Songbirds which can be seen here are:the Collared Flycatche, IcterineWarbler and Wood Warbler and from the birds of pray inBegec stayed Common Buzzard, Goshawk, Eleonora's Falcon and Kestrel.
