National park Đerdap is situated in north-eastern Serbia, near the Romanian border. It is the oldest Neolithic settlement on the Danube, which has the greatest number of monuments from the Roman period. The protected area, covering an area of 63,000 ha, was declared national park in 1974.

The grandiose Iron Gates of the Danube (Đerdapska klisura) is an impressive work of nature. It is the longest and largest gorge in Europe. It consists of for smaller gorges, three structural basins and two canyons. There is also the highest stone sculpture in Europe – The Statue of Dacian King Decebalus, carved in rock, is 40 m high.


At the same time, there is the largest and the oldest water breakthrough in Europe, where the Danube is the deepest and narrowest.


National park Đerdap is the biggest museum of nature and archaeology in, and the most beautiful national park in Europe.
