There are many cultural and historical hertages in Vranje:


Church of St. Nicholas was built in the 14th century and it is the seat of the bishop of Vranje. The church is mentioned in Hilandar charter of King Dušan, which states that the king donated several villages and this church to Hilandar (Serbian monastery at mount Atos).


Crkva Sv. Petke or Krstata Džamija (Church of St. Petka, or Crossed Mosque) is an old medieval church, of which original structure today remained only one wall. Throug its history this church had several purposes, it was converted into a mosque during the Ottoman rule, and after the liberation it was returned to the Orthodox Church.

Crkva Uspenja Presvete Bogorodice (Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary) is in Sobina outskirt of Vranje. The church was built in the medieval Serbian state it was destroyed under the Turkish rule, and restored in 1820.


Markovo Kale is the remains of medieval fortification. Archeological research has confirmed that the foundations of this fortress date from the period of Roman Emperor Justinian. There is a legend which says that this fortress was built by Prince Marko (Mrnjavčević).


Saborni hram Sv. Trojice (Cathedral of St. Trinity) is located in the city center. This extraordinary temple was being built from 1838 to 1858.

Pašin Konak and Haremluk are buildings built in 1765, in which Turkish pasha and his wives lived. Today in these buildings are the National museum and restaurants.


Spomenik Oslobodiocima Vranja - Monument to the Liberators of Vranje (also called Čika Mitke - Uncle Mike), was built before the May coup in 1903. This monument was twice desetroyed by the Bulgarian occupying forces, and erected again, so that it is badly damaged. But even without his arm and rifle, “Uncle Mike” proudly brakes Turkish flag with his feet.
